Wall Brown

Overview

The Wall Brown is found in grassland habitats where there is bare ground or rock for basking. In Cumbria records are mainly from around the coast and on the thin limestone soils and outcrops of the Morecambe bay area. The butterfly has declined in the county over the last few years and this reflects the situation nationally.

Where to look

This butterfly is most likely to be found at or near the coast where there is suitable habitat. Limestone grassland with abundant bare rock and stony soil in places such as Whitbarrow Scar, SD442871 are also likely places.
