Small Heath
Overview
The Small Heath is found on grassland sites mainly south of a line drawn through Keswick. It is best looked for around the coast, the Morecambe bay limestone hills and is one of the very few species that are found up on the high fells with the Mountain Ringlet.
Where to look
Almost any coastal site that has grassland are the best places to look, eg Workington wind farm north of the river Derwent NX996303, Drigg Dunes SD050985 down to Walney Island at Barrow SD214662. The Small Heath is also likely to be seen on any of the grassy high fells especially on Whitbarrow, Whitbarrow and Hutton Roof, SD565777.
